Common Car Shipping Questions
Can I place items in my vehicle?
The Department of Transportation prohibits the transport of household goods (personal belongings) in vehicles being transported. The carrier’s insurance does not insure personal items. A car carrier can be fined, and your items can be confiscated during routine inspections.
How long does it take for vehicle delivery?
It all depends on the location and destination of the vehicle. On average, vehicle transport takes 1-2 weeks, and 3-6 weeks for Hawaii car transport. Pickup times can be anywhere from 2-4 days, and an additional 5-8 days for delivery.
Do you guarantee pickup/delivery dates?
No – Although we are very accurate with our pickup/delivery dates, we request a 3-4 day window for most common metropolitan areas and a 5-6 day window for uncommon areas.
What is door to door delivery?
Simply put door to door means we come to you. Keep in mind door to door delivery may not be available in all areas. Customers need to know about any limitations that prevent our trucks from making safe and legal deliveries.
Do you guarantee pickup/delivery times?
No – Although we are very accurate with our pickup/delivery dates, we request a 3-4 day window for most common surrounding areas and a 5-6 day window for uncommon areas.
Are you an auto transport broker or an actual auto transporter?
We are both. We have our own fleet of trucks, as well as a network of subcontracted carriers. Whether it’s one of our own trucks or one of our subcontractors, we serve as the primary point of contact throughout the transportation process.
Can I track my vehicle shipment for a status update?
Yes – You can contact us via phone or email to request a vehicle status. Just provide us with your order number, vehicle type, and pickup/delivery location.
Is my vehicle insured during transport?
Yes – Vehicles are insured up to $100,000 on the open carrier and up to $250,000 on the enclosed carrier. Your vehicle is fully insured against negligent damage caused by carrier or carrier equipment failure during transport.

What is the Shipping Cost for Car Transport?
Auto transport companies will consider where you are moving to, how big your car is, the condition (operable or inoperable), service type (open or enclosed), and the time of year when pricing their service options.Â
To get the actual car shipping cost, we recommend speaking to an auto shipping specialist with the specifics about your move.
Car Shipping Distance
Distance is the main cost factor for vehicle shipping. As the distance increases, so does the total price of the shipment.
Type of Vehicle
Vehicles that are longer, taller, or oversize require additional car transport adjustments.
Shipping Method
The shipping method will also affect the cost of car shipping. Two methods for shipping a car are open transport and enclosed transport.
Seasonality
Season and weather can impact car shipping costs. Higher demand in summer can mean higher prices, and inclement weather, like heavy snow in winter, can cause delays and add to the cost.
What Is the Cheapest Way to Ship A Car?
Many people may assume that driving the car to its destination is the cheapest option, but this is not always true. The cost of shipping a car can vary depending on several factors, including the type of vehicle, the destination, and the timing of the move. However, there are some ways to ship your car inexpensively, depending on your specific needs.
- Open Transport: This is the industry’s standard method of shipping cars—and the most economical way.
- Operable Condition:Â Make sure your vehicle runs and drives. Carriers will add to the total costs if they’re handling inoperable cars.
- Schedule:Â Booking and reserving ahead of time will help you save the costs of expedited or last-minute requests.
- Flexibility:Â Having an open schedule, meaning not requesting specific times and dates, will almost surely get you an affordable quote.
- Low-Season:Â Shipping a car during the low (winter) season is generally less expensive than shipping a car in the high (summer) season.
- Location:Â If you live in a rural area, we recommend making arrangements to bring or receive your vehicle near a major city.
- Multiple Cars:Â Shipping more than (1) vehicle on the same truck will save you money. Tell your family and friends.
- Discounts:Â Are you an active military member, seasonal traveler, or repeat client? Ask for a discount.
What Should You Look for in A Car Shipping Company?
When you need to transport your vehicle to a new location, it’s important to find the best car shipping company for your needs. Research is always the best approach to finding the perfect auto transport company. Here are a few factors to look for in a quality car transporter.
Registration
Make sure you’re working with actual auto transporters. Registered companies will have an issued Motor Carrier (MC) number. A simple check of their MC number through the Department of Transportation website will verify whether or not they’re actual auto haulers.
Licensing
All professional car shipping companies must be fully bonded and insured by law. An insurance policy typically covers negligent damage when loading, in transit, and unloading your car.
Experience
A company with experience and expertise will provide you with the best auto transport service. Top car shipping companies have the experience, knowledge, and resources to handle any car transport. Be sure to look into the company’s years of experience in the industry.
Pricing
Do not look for the cheapest option. The saying “you get what you pay for” still holds true in the auto transport industry. Generally, companies with low quotes have poor quality of service. Look out for quotes that could be a bait and switch.
Reviews
Read customer reviews about the company. The best car shipping companies have a positive reputation on major review websites. Consider reading customer service and transport reviews from sites such as BBB, Google, TransportReviews, and Trustpilot.
Should I Drive or Hire An Auto Shipping Service?
Choosing between auto shipping or driving your car across the country has pros and cons. To determine which option is best, consider the following factors carefully.
Distance
Determine the safest, easiest, and most convenient route you will take to your destination. Look at the route’s terrain, traffic history, road conditions, etc. After examining the route, you’ll be able to estimate how many miles you’ll drive, how long it will take you, and how much fuel you’ll need.
Cost
Is it cheaper to transport a car or drive it? Cost is one of the main reasons people decide to drive across the country instead of a car shipping service. Many assume that fuel is the only cost to consider; however, other costs to keep in mind include road tolls, food, hotel stays, wear and tear, etc. These costs can add up quickly once you hit the road.
Time
If you are in a hurry to move, auto shipping can save you a significant amount of time compared to driving, which can take several days. It’s important to note that auto shipping often offers flexible pickup and delivery options, which can help you better manage your time and schedule.
Season
Driving across the country during winter is different from driving during summer. Hazardous and irregular road conditions could risk your and your family’s safety. For this reason, the time of the year when you move will have an effect on whether to hire a car transport service or drive across the country.
Safety
Safety is the most important reason to consider when deciding to drive or transport your car. Driving long distances maximizes the risk of accidents, unexpected vehicle breakdowns, road hazards, and driving in poor weather conditions. Even worse, if you’re traveling with family, driving your vehicle may risk your family’s safety.
Convenience
Last but not least, you’ll want to get to your new location in the fastest, safest, and easiest way possible. Auto shipping will help reduce some of the stress of moving. You’ll have peace of mind and have one less thing to worry about.
Prepare Your Car for Transport
Minimize the risk of damage by preparing your vehicle for transport. Although the chances of your car sustaining any damage are slim to none, you still want to make sure you do everything you can to ensure safe and damage-free auto shipping. Here are a few things you can do.
Record existing damage and take pictures
Noting all pre-existing damage is an important step for car shipping. This will make it easier for you and the auto shipping carrier to identify new damage on your auto if it may occur.
Remove personal and aftermarket items
By law, auto shipping companies are not authorized to transport any personal or household items in the vehicles they’re shipping.
Perform mechanical inspection
All vehicles need to be in operable condition unless noted at the time of booking. We advice performing a routine maintenance check to identify any mechanical issues. Â
